Digital Citizenship is a subject that needs to be explicitly taught. Because the digital world is still developing within education it is extremely important to guide and direct students about how to be a good digital citizen. Fortunately, there are great online resources for this subject. Here are a few:   

Common Sense Media is a website that promotes digital safety and digital citizenship education to parents, teachers, and students of K-12 through college age. It has the most comprehensive material on this subject that can be found online. The site includes lesson plans for using the internet safely in the classroo, ways to prevent dangerous situations online, useful artcles and a variety of media. This article on Edutopia.org by Vicki Davis called What Your Students Really Need to Know About Digital Citizenship is a great reference for prevention. 

Digital Passport

Digital Passport is an interactive website to teach elementary age students about digital citizenship through lessons and games. This website also contains material and resources for educators.
